Yohji Yamamoto

In Wim Wender‘s biopic on Yohji Yamamoto, the Japanese designer revealed that Austrian portraitist August Sander was an inspiration for his menswear silhouette. Oversized, worn in and weathered, elegantly louche, it’s a look that has informed many a collections. Considered by many as cerebral and unconventional, the Yohji man throws caution to the wind, ignores established sartorial codes and sets himself apart with his own look. Like the Yohji man, a Yohji woman also pays no attention to conventional dress codes; his is an aesthetic that treats fashion less as trends, and more as art.
